Dyslexia and the Nervous System: Frequently Asked Questions

When your child is bright, curious, and working incredibly hard but reading still feels harder than it should, it can be frustrating for everyone.

Maybe homework ends in tears. Maybe your child avoids reading out loud. Maybe you've watched their confidence slowly change as they realize something that seems easy for their classmates takes significantly more effort for them.

Dyslexia isn't a reflection of intelligence or effort.

It's a learning difference involving how the brain processes written language. And while the right educational and reading interventions are incredibly important, we also believe there is value in understanding the bigger neurological picture of the child.

At Precision Chiropractic, we don't treat dyslexia or replace specialized reading instruction. We evaluate how the nervous system is developing and functioning and look for additional challenges that may be making learning even harder.

Below are answers to some of the questions we hear from parents.

Your Child Is More Than Their Reading Level

When school is hard, it's easy for a child to begin believing that they're the problem.

They're not.

A child can struggle to read and still be incredibly intelligent, creative, thoughtful, capable, and full of potential.

At Precision Chiropractic, we're not here to change who your child is or promise a shortcut around the hard work of learning. We're here to understand the whole child and support the nervous system that's working behind the scenes every single day.

Sometimes having another piece of the puzzle can make all the difference in understanding what your child needs to move forward with greater confidence.
